Sometimes, all we need is a Bank Holiday Monday to bring our stress levels down and our zen levels up. However, now it is time to maintain that good energy both in the office and at home.
Feng shui is the principle of how the arrangement of your environment can affect energy flow. Also, while feng shui may be regarded as a pseudoscience, there is nothing pseudo about that feeling you get when you tidy your home and clean up your workspace. Aesthetics breed vibes and vibes breed moods. Keep reading to find a list of just a few ways we can all feng shui the shizz out of our office spaces and apartments for happier lives.
1| KEEP CLEAR! MIND THE CLOSING DOORS
We should think of our front door as the entrance not only for us and our guests, but also for energy. *Wait, you have a friend called Energy?* We should be allowing for a clear path to enter our homes and our lives. If we walk home straight into a mess or into a wall, it can make us feel suffocated and trapped. Solutions could be to add a shoe rack, chest of drawers or mirror to tidy up our things and also make the entrance look more welcoming.
2| CLEAR OUT THAT CLUTTER, SLOB!
Did you know we can actually and metaphorically lift some weight off us without even having to go to the gym? If you do not have time to take half a day during the weekend to do this, then take 15 minutes every day for a week to go through some of those piles that have accumulated and try to throw out three things each time. Watch how you actually and metaphorically get rid of those unnecessary headaches as well!
3| NO NEED TO WATCH YOUR BACK, JACK
Positioning our desk space, at work or at home, to face the door can make us feel more powerful, hunny! Positioning in the opposite way can make us feel vulnerable - this is not the best feeling, is it? Ask your manager if it is okay to shift around your things a little bit - remind them that a small change goes a long way!
4| DON’T JUST EAT YOUR GREENS, LIVE AND BREATHE THEM
Having plants around us is great for enhancing creativity as well as the air in our environment. Try to buy 2-3 plants that you like and make sure to take care of them. This will also remind you to also take care of yourself! Warning: if you still have not been successful in keeping a plant alive, this is not the time to be adventurous. We strongly recommend you buy succulents instead. *When succulents are better at adulting than you are*.
5| TIME TO START PUTTING THE TOILET SEAT DOWN
Did you know that we have literally been flushing money down the toilet? Not only is leaving the toilet open extremely uninviting but in feng shui terms this means that we are also allowing good energy (which brings money) to drain away. Bye paycheck, see you never!
6| PUT OUT YOUR EMOTIONAL FIRES
There are five main elements: earth, fire, wood, water and metal. There are two ways these can be represented in your space: physically or metaphorically. For example, warm tones of colour or an actual fire both represent this element. We should be aiming for a balance between them. We are usually drawn to those which we feel like we lack or the ones that cause imbalances in our lives. For example, if you get angry easily, be mindful to avoid many warm tones in our space. However, if you feel like you lack motivation, then fire up those warm tones! *But do not actually start a fire, ‘kay?*
7| BROKEN THINGS = BROKEN LIFE
Have you been staring at the broken pieces of that plate your friend brought over when she came for a potluck forever ago? Throw it away! When we have broken things in our home, it feels like it is easier to leave things as they are - this stretches out all the way to wider issues we are procrastinating dealing with in our lives. Fix it or throw it away. That should be the rule for our spaces and the rule for our general lives!
8| DON’T STARE YOUR ISSUES IN THE FACE
We have a habit of surrounding ourselves with more propaganda that mirror our issues back at us. For example, have you recently started to feel weird and insecure that you are single and have been losing sleep over it? Do not let that single chair or single water glass mock you! Double up on things - stop living like a bachelor/bachelorette! Just wait and see how you will already feel better.
9| SLEEP LIKE A BABY, WORK LIKE A HUSTLA
We all deserve to sleep like a baby and here is how! While you may be single and loving it, consider this: it is better for us to have two nightstands. The reason? It makes the place where you sleep look (and feel) more balanced. This is easier and more comfortable on the mind, which could make it easier to drift off. This is our idea of quality nightlife!
10| BRIGHT LIGHT, LIGHT MIND
Increasing natural light and space in your home can make us happier and more positive. As it turns out, we do not need to move flat or rebuild our homes to achieve this. There is a quick fix - it is called mirrors. Invest in a good mirror and place it somewhere in your flat where the mirror can catch that natural light and reflect it back to you. Also, be mindful that your clutter is not reflecting through the mirror, as this can have the opposite effect - feisty much?
Conclusion
